What are the marriage and pregnancy regulations for Work Permit holders in Singapore?

Under the Work Permit conditions, you need to first get approval before marrying a Singapore Citizen (SC) or Permanent Resident (PR) in Singapore or overseas, regardless the type of marriage (civil, religious or customary) if you:

  • Currently hold a Work Permit holder (including Training Work Permit)
  • Previously held a Work Permit as your last work pass in Singapore

You are only allowed to get pregnant and give birth to a child in Singapore if you are already married with MOM’s approval to a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident.

These regulations apply even after your Work Permit has expired.

If you do not seek approval when it is required:

  • Your privilege to work in Singapore could be withdrawn
  • You may be prevented from entering Singapore for a period of time

You do not need to seek approval if you are a former Work Permit holder who:

  • Is now holding an EP or S Pass
  • Previously held an EP or S Pass as your last work pass in Singapore
  • Is now a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident.
